Char

Scorched cut-wood edge

Char is the scorched, carbonized edge a laser leaves in wood — a taper of burn that is wider at the top of the kerf. Some char reads as "laser-made craft"; too much reads as burnt.

Reduce it with air assist, masking tape, faster multi-pass cuts, and a honeycomb bed. The char gradient is also, frankly, this site’s favorite color.
