How do you engrave a photo on wood?

Pipeline: pick a pale, tight-grained wood (basswood or maple — grain is noise), convert the photo to grayscale, boost contrast harder than looks right on screen, apply a diffusion dither (Jarvis or Stucki), and run around 254–318 LPI at engraving power well below your fill settings.

Mask the board, run a small test strip of the actual photo first, and expect the second attempt to be the keeper. Faces need the most contrast help; skies need the least.
